Quick read on a new ‘heat map’ that UQAM’s department of geography has produced showing localized hot spots around the city. (I need to find the actual map, sorry - update below)
Take one large highway (HWY13) add two adjacent massive shopping mall parking lots and you get a micro climate of 42C in the summer for the residents to enjoy on an apparent regular basis. Nice. Make use of those AC units and heated swimming pools.
link spotted on MtlWeblog.
Update: Thanks to Kevin for finding an older copy of said Montreal Heat map and linking to it in the comments. Unfortunately the link is deep in UQAM’s servers and the combination of apostrophes and ‘é’ is killing the link. I mirrored the file here, check it out! I want to live in a tent on Mont Royal this summer. Montreal Heat Map 2001 _ UQAM

I found what’s probably an older version of the map in question in a pdf at http://www.climateairhealth.ca/graphics/pdf’s/d%E9pliants%204dec-03.pdf
The quality hold up reasonably well if you zoom into it. The difference between Lasalle and Ville Émard is pretty telling.
