As the clock on my cell hit 8pm last night I stood, anxious for something, but not quite sure what. Along with another 50 or so warmly dressed photogs and videographers (tqs too!) we waited. The lookout seemed like the perfect spot to catch the possibility of an amazing event.
What we got was a bucket full of bullshit. The collective sigh of disappointment was easily heard over the roar of the wind that night. Montreal’s involvement in Earth Hour 2008 was feeble at best and downright woeful in my view.
Photos doctored for dramatic effect. (cause man they needed it)

The coolest “switch throw” award goes to the Sunlife Building, but it also highlights just how much crappy mood lighting that structure uses for the rest of the year.
The most saved energy for one hour goes to the Place Ville Marie spinning light of stupidity. That light just gives every other building in the city an excuse to shine shine shine away into the starless sky.
Will post a 30 second video tomorrow showing the 5 building switching off PART of their lights… wooooop E.

yeah Toronto’s earth hour was pretty lame too. In defense of both cities, I think that our expectations were a little skewed. I mean, in my head I was expecting to see all the lights go off like “bhammm”.
Anyways, all in all, the tallest building in Toronto participated and they showed the way for next year. I think that earth hour is an event that will become bigger each year. I guess the most important thing is that the residents learned how important it was to turn off the lights. It gave some media air time to earth.
Great photos Brian. I wish I had taken one from up here… :(
Cheers
