OK, that does it.

Cause of the Month for MAY:  Ridding the neighbourhood of Publi-Sac.

This now makes 3 weeks in a row that they don’t respect our handmade ‘pas de circulaires’ sticker.  So I call again.  The nice lady on the phone didn’t get yelled at, because that wouldn’t solve a thing.  What she did mention was that they are only obliged to respect a standardized logo fixed to the mailbox, available at the Access Montréal.  Or Eco-Quartier.

She also stated that their main problem is with the delivery folks who toss the publi-sac onto your second level porch from street level.  She hinted at possible legal issues if they are caught not respecting these stickers…

I’m going to look for a bulk distributer of these stickers (or get a sponsor to donate the funds required to print several hundred(thousand?)) and get EVERYONE in the community on board.

Judging by the fines below it would be fairly simple to follow a delivery person for part of the day and film them breaking the law and submit this evidence to our local borough’s city hall.

Obviously this pisses a lot of people off, here are some other sites that have successfully empowered the people in their neighbourhoods to take action:

ANNEXE A
AUTOCOLLANT INDIQUANT LE REFUS DU PROPRIÉTAIRE OU DE L’OCCUPANT D’UNE PROPRIÉTÉ PRIVÉE DE RECEVOIR DES ARTICLES PUBLICITAIRES
Cette affiche doit mesure au moins 3,5 cm sur 3,5 cm et, au plus, 6 cm sur 6 cm et être conforme à la figure ci-dessous.

Quiconque contrevient à l’une des dispositions du présent règlement commet une infraction et est passible :
1° s’il s’agit d’une personne physique :
a) pour une première infraction, d’une amende de 100 $ à 300 $;
b) pour une première récidive, d’une amende de 300 $ à 500 $;
c) pour toute récidive additionnelle, d’une amende de 500 $ à 1 000 $;
2° s’il s’agit d’une personne morale :
a) pour une première infraction, d’une amende de 200 $ à 600 $;
b) pour une première récidive, d’une amende de 600 $ à 1 000 $;
c) pour toute récidive additionnelle, d’une amende de 1 000 $ à 2 000 $;
