We took part in Montreal’s Urban Ecology Centre sponsored event a few weeks ago and attended a few great workshops like:
- Heat island effect and how to cool the city
- Cote-St-Luc’s pilot (now going full steam ahead) compost program
- Green roof design
- Eco Habitation presentation on building greener
Part of the Heat island effect workshop involved a little tour of Milton Park and some of the great projects they have completed to date. Here are some pix from their Eco Backyard.

- Communauto Parking, Bike shelter, Green roof, and Water Catchment

- The ‘Arbour Rain Barrel‘ in all it’s glory

- Mosquito and debris netting closeup

- Community composter

-Compost closeup (cause you wanted to know!)

Love that urban rain barrel! Would be perfect for watering on our upper deck where a) it would be great to incorporate some enviro water usage and b)I’m too lazy to lug up water all the time to water plants (& so they die prematurely),
Perfect solution indeed. And if you mount it high enough, you can attach a drip feed into your plants for auto watering!!! Voila.
