Taking a cue from a great post entitled “This Store Blows” over at Racked.com… I present to you the 514 version. Here’s their concept:
Come summer, you see retailers around the city leaving the doors of their stores propped wide open in the hopes of enticing shoppers in with blasts of frigid air conditioning. In protest of this decidedly carbon-non-neutral trend we bring you, This Store Blows, highlighting the city’s worst offenders. Want to join forces with us? Contributions, accompanied by a photo, are always accepted.
So if you live in and around SOHO…send them a line. If however, you live in and around Montreal send me a contribution. Tag the email with Date/Time and Name/Location of the offensive store and a snap from yer mobile or digicam. If you feel like stepping it up, have a conversation with the manager on site and let me know the results (pos/neg).
Have fun. And kick some ass.

I’ve noticed a number of stores, such as the Bay, are being much more reasonable with the A/C this year. I’d guess they keep it around 25degrees inside. This is makes the transition to/from outdoors much more comfortable, as well as doubtlessly saving a lot of resources. They should be recognized and patronized.
I completely agree. Here here to the Bay… a Canadian owned company. Oh wait. Still, good for them, and thanks for bringing up the flip side.
I would love to see a local store integrate proper overhangs, a green wall/roof and be able to keep clients comfortable while using purely natural ventilation. Actually let me do a little digging, I think MEC had incorporated a few of these into their cooling strategy.
