In the Village des Tanneries, there lives a community under threat. With model gardens built to withstand the abuses of an urban environment. When threatened they stand up and fight. Not willing to be moved or wanting to live through a poorly planned construction project.
“The people who live here share deep roots in the community and have only begun to recover from the expropriations and scars left by the building of the Turcot and Ville Marie in the 1960s. Almost 40 years later, has the MTQ developed any more respect for the area’s rich history?… If not the people who live here?! ” - local resident
Their demands are as follows:
- a specific plan to reduce automobile traffic, through an increased supply of alternative transportation, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and local pollution and increasing the quality of life and health of the population
- the conservation of the rental housing supply and defragmentation of the neighbourhoods in the borough of Le Sud-Ouest
- compensation for the citizens who will suffer the ill effects of the construction work
Support them. Embrace their cause. Help them survive and thrive.
- Potluck BBQ this Wednesday (October 1st) from 5pm-8pm
- Where: Bikers’ Garden (corner Walnut and Cazelais)

Thank you Véronique :-)
Indeed, this community is waging a David and Goliath battle… Not just for their own sake, but to raise awareness regarding the impact of car emissions upon health of local populations in proximity to high traffic roads.
