The sustainable harvest
Why garlic from China? We’re browsing over the bounteous produce in a local supermarket: carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, five kinds of squash, russet potatoes and pale-skinned ones, cauliflowers in purple, orange and green as well as white.
Éric Darier, a sustainable agriculture campaigner with Greenpeace, has joined a Gazette reporter and photographer to shop for the fixings for a harvest dinner. The menu: chicken with roasted vegetables, topped off with a homemade apple tart. The challenge: to create a meal using only local ingredients, preferably grown organically.
